Weekend Preview: Apes, Yankees

Rise of the Planet of the Apes: James Franco invents super-intelligent apes, the rest of the world apparently un-invents guns, leading to said apes taking over the world or something.
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 79%
Uninformed Commentary: The reviews make me think this isn’t entirely terrible. Looks like a solid B movie, which would put it squarely with the rest of the Apes. In completely shocking news, the studio is apparently intent on re-booting the entire franchise and the ending of this movie hints at a sequel pretty ham-handedly. They should just put a 1 in front of every movie now, because we all know that we’re getting a sequel whether we want it or not.
The Change-Up: Freaky Friday with boobs and poop jokes.
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 19%
Uninformed Commentary: My review is here. I purposefully didn’t read any reviews before seeing the movie and was a little surprised to see it rated so poorly. It’s not good by any means, but I guess I like poop jokes more than the average person. Setting expectations before watching helps too.
Nothing really different from last week. I’m not wasting any more words on True Blood, watch Curb or we’re no longer friends.
Yankees vs. Red Sox (Fri 7:10, Sat 4:10, Sun 8:05): The two best teams in the American League (and baseball IMO) face off for the AL East lead, the team that wins the series will have at least a 1 game lead and possibly a 3 game lead in the AL East. Barring an epic collapse, both these teams are headed to the playoffs, but winning the division could be critical to avoiding reigning AL champ Texas in the first round of the playoffs.
