Get Ready For More “Smurfs”
The Smurfs was a critically panned, hastily thrown together piece of schlock about a cartoon that hasn’t been relevant in a decade, designed to extract money from parents exhausted from a summer full of having to deal with their children and wishing for a bit of silence for an hour and a half. And guess what, it worked, almost beating the much higher-budgeted and equally stupid Cowboys and Aliens in its opening week and opening number 1 in 23 countries last weekend. You know what that means? Sequel time bitches!
Sony Pictures has targeted Aug. 2, 2013 as the release date for a sequel to The Smurfs, even though the studio at this point has only locked Jordan Kerner to be the film’s producer.
Good to know that they’re not deviating from the game plan here by actually trying to put together a quality picture. That would be way too decent of them. This is why we can’t have nice things. The good news is that the apocalypse is coming in 2012 anyways so none of us will ever have to see Smurfs 2.
