Pilot Review: “New Girl”

Run away with me Zooey, I love you

New Girl (Tuesday 9:00 ET, FOX): Jess (Zooey Deschanel) comes home to find her boyfriend cheating on her. Forced to move out of her place, she moves in with three single men. Hilarity ensues.

Uninformed Commentary: The pilot was pretty funny, but not quite hilarious. That’s not surprising since most pilots are pretty uneven. I see potential here, but the over the top ditziness of Deschanel’s character could probably will get tiresome. But really, who cares? Zooey Deschanel is like a unicorn fart wrapped in a rainbow with cupcake sprinkles.

Will it last? The pilot ratings on this may be a bit misleading as FOX gave it a soft open, releasing the pilot on iTunes two weeks ago and Hulu last week. In any case, having Deschanel on-board as a familiar and popular face gives the show some cachet with audiences and FOX should give this some rope.
