Awww Dammit NBC

NBC has canceled Free Agents two days after picking up Whitney for a full season *breaks vase*. The reason? A drop-off in audience:

The Hank Azaria comedy dropped sharply after its premiere four weeks ago and settled at a 3.3 million viewers and a 1.0 adults 18-49 rating. No word yet what’s going in its slot next week. (Office repeats are the usual NBC comedy hole-filler.)

Dammit America, this is why we can’t have nice things! For the record, here is what I wrote in my review of the show’s pilot episode.

I think this show’s achilles’ heel when it comes to attracting an audience is the same thing that makes me like it so much. It has a surplus of wit and doesn’t rely on physical comedy as a crutch. In 2011 to make a ton of money as a sitcom you have to paint in broad strokes and pander to the lowest common denominator. Basically, you have to be produced by Chuck Lorre. Still, Community has carved out a niche for itself with a similar, if more absurd, comedic style so maybe NBC gives this a second season simply due to the development of a cult following. Just don’t put money on it.

Heed my words for I am a prophet! Just don’t read my football picks okay? I liked Free Agents  a lot, but my life is miserable and full of pain so this pretty much had to happen. Enjoy your cheese snacks, sweat pants, and mediocre lives TV watchers of America. I resent you soooo much.
