Weekend Recap: Who Wouldn’t Want to Watch Robots Fight?
In the least surprising news of the weekend (the most surprising was Al Davis dying, I was convinced that he was a vampire who would live forever) Real Steel was this weekend’s top box office earner, pulling in $27.3MM domestically and $22.1MM abroad because people are stupid and Hugh Jackman is handsome. My hope is that this will lead Comedy Central to bring back Battle Bots (remember that show?).
Placing a distant second was The Ides of March which earned $10.4MM. Come on people, you would rather watch robots punch each other than George Clooney and Baby Goose (Ryan Gosling)? Wait, don’t answer that.
Rounding out the top 10 were the usual suspects, Dolphin Tale, Moneyball, and 50/50. In case you were wondering, The Human Centipede 2 earned $54,000 good for somewhere between 36 and 41. Guess you guys don’t like poop.
